What an interesting place!

Bedale has so much to offer. Great independent shops and cafes, lots of interesting historical bits and bobs and beautiful walks that take in the great local landscape. Even our very own cafe includes some interesting features. Do you know what this is?

What could it be?

This sits right into the chimney breast of our cafe and was used to keep salt dry back in the day! We are fortunate enough to own a very old map of Bedale and Aiskew so take the time to enjoy it when you visit

See if you recognise or can guess or identify what the following Bedale sites of interest are. There is

  • An ancient grammar school built in 1674

  • A Leech House (built in the late 1700s and in use until the late 20th century!!)

  • Bedale Harbour (it was never completed as the railway was finished first and the canal scheme ran out of money)

  • The "new" grammar school (1888)

  • The Workhouse (1839 - later used as a hospital and now converted to flats)

Check out the websites below for lots more local information and local walks and don't forget to call in for breakfast, brunch or lunch to fuel your explorations :)
